The Restore Botanical Cream Cleanser was formulated to work with your skin’s physiology, not against it. By using plant-based emulsifiers, lipid-rich oils, and anti-inflammatory botanicals, this cleanser gently lifts away impurities while reinforcing the skin’s natural defenses.
At the heart of this formulation is the oil I grew up watching my mum lather her facein; Apricot Kernel Oil, a lipid-rich oil abundant in gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), oleic acid, and vitamin E, which work synergistically to nourish the stratum corneum, enhance elasticity, and prevent transepidermal water loss (TEWL). Unlike mineral oil-based cleansers that create an occlusive film without true nourishment, Apricot Kernel Oil actively integrates into the skin’s natural lipid matrix, strengthening its defense system.
Coconut Oil further supports the barrier lipid layer, providing lauric acid, a naturally antimicrobial fatty acid that helps balance the skin microbiome. Unlike sulfates found in mainstream cleansers, which strip away protective sebum, coconut oil dissolves dirt, sunscreen, and excess oil while maintaining a healthy lipid composition. Note, whilst coconut oil is a comedogenic ingredient, we find our acne patients love this Cream Cleanser as a second step in their cleansing routine (if they're not a fan of our Phytonutrient Oil Cleanser) and they don't find it to clog their pores due to the small amount and the fact it's present in a cleanser, not in products that are staying on their skin all day.
Australian Natives, Elderflower and Jacaranda, bring potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties to the formula. Elderflower is rich in flavonoids and phenolic acids, helping to neutralize oxidative stress that contributes to premature aging. Jacaranda, known for its glycosides and anti-inflammatory compounds, actively calms redness, reduces irritation, and enhances skin resilience—a far cry from synthetic astringents that leave the skin barrier compromised.
To restore hydration and reinforce ceramide production, Oat Extract is a game-changer. Oats contain beta-glucans, which are polysaccharides that bind water molecules into the skin, instantly increasing moisture levels. Additionally, avenanthramides—unique polyphenols in oats—work at a cellular level to inhibit NF-κB pathways, reducing inflammatory cytokines that contribute to skin sensitivity and irritation.
Cucumber Extract & Cucumber Seed Oil act as a cooling, de-puffing, and anti-inflammatory duo, rich in caffeic acid and vitamin C. Unlike synthetic cooling agents like menthol (which can be sensitizing), cucumber extract reduces heat-induced inflammation at a cellular level, soothing reactive or compromised skin.
The emulsification system in this cleanser—Behenyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Arachidyl Alcohol, and Arachidyl Glucoside—is 100% skin-compatible and plant-derived. These ingredients act as biomimetic emulsifiers, meaning they work in harmony with the skin’s lipid structure to gently remove debris without disrupting the acid mantle. Traditional cleansers often rely on PEG-based emulsifiers and sulfates, which damage tight junction proteins in the epidermis, leading to increased permeability and irritation. This formula preserves barrier function while delivering a luxurious cleansing experience.
