Gotu Kola is one of the most revered herbs in the botanical world for its anti-ageing benefits. Yogis have used it for centuries for its mind-enhancing effects, whilst in Sri Lanka it’s used for longevity – even elephants are said to eat it, which according to Asian beliefs helps explain their long-life span.
From a skincare perspective, it’s amazing for, you guessed it, anti-ageing effects. It’s rich in saponins which help tighten and firm skin, and a compound called flavonoids which are potent antioxidants. It stimulates collagen production, so is commonly used for wound healing of skin tissue. We especially love how it enhances skin elasticity and that beautiful glow.
I use Gotu Kola Extract frequently when I’m helping people at The Acne & Eczema Clinic. I add it to my custom made skincare for patients who need skin repair, wound healing, and reduction in redness. I use it all the time in my eczema creams!
I’m not going to lie to you - I am absolutely obsessed with the Ancient Oil Elixir (just like my Vitamin Serum C) and I keep it in my routine most of the year in one way or another.
I love to use this as an oil cleanser if I’ve been wearing heavier make up. It just melts off your skin, and you’re left feeling so hydrated and clean.
I use it as a serum in the winter months because I need the extra hydration. If I’m not using my Vitamin Serum A (which I usually don’t use in Summer) then I use the Ancient Oil Elixir at night to help my barrier.
Some of my patients in clinic like to use the Ancient Oil Elixir as a primer before applying makeup.
I love having this oil on hand for any dry patches that might pop up, or where dry lips come into my day.
I take this with me when travelling because my drier skin type needs the extra hydration.
